Hernando County, FL - A 21-year-old motorcyclist was arrested in Hernando County after allegedly traveling 60 miles per hour over the posted speed limit on Cortez Boulevard.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, deputies reported that a sheriff’s deputy was conducting speed enforcement near Olympia Road when the motorcycle was observed moving at an extremely high rate of speed.

Using a laser speed detection device, the deputy allegedly recorded the motorcycle traveling 110 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The rider, identified as Corbin Smith, was stopped and taken into custody under Florida’s "Super Speeder" law, which applies to drivers exceeding 30 mph above the posted speed limit.

Smith’s motorcycle was removed from the scene, and he was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center.

The Sheriff's Office reminded drivers of the safety risks associated with high-speed driving.

Officials stated that roads are designed for safe travel at posted limits, and exceeding these limits endangers both the driver and others on the roadway.

The arrest follows continued law enforcement efforts to address speeding and reckless driving in Hernando County.

Deputies continue to monitor high-risk areas and encourage motorists to obey traffic laws to ensure public safety.

The case is an example of the application of Florida’s Super Speeder law and underscores the potential consequences for drivers who allegedly exceed speed limits by dangerous amounts.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge all motorists to adhere to posted speed limits.

The Sheriff's Office also emphasized that excessive speeding can result in legal action, vehicle impoundment, and other penalties under state law.
