Wynwood, FL - A 16-year-old boy is facing multiple charges after allegedly shooting his 13-year-old stepbrother during a dispute over clothing at their Wynwood home.

According to Miami Police, the shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at a residence near North Miami Avenue and 31st Street, where the stepbrothers live together.

Authorities said the teen allegedly pulled a firearm during the argument, and it discharged, striking the younger boy in the left shoulder.

The 13-year-old was hospitalized and is expected to recover.

The 16-year-old is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Miami Police spokesman Michael Vega confirmed the teen is also facing a charge of possession of a stolen firearm because the weapon had reportedly been stolen.

According to the arrest report, the conflict began when the younger brother noticed the teen wearing his clothing and asked him to remove it.

The older teen allegedly displayed a gun in an attempt to intimidate him, which then discharged accidentally.

Vega said the incident highlights the risks of minors having access to firearms.

“A 16-year-old was in possession of a firearm, pointed it at someone, and the gun discharged when the trigger was pulled,” he said.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the teen obtained the stolen firearm.

Authorities have not released information about the teen’s legal representation or bond.

The case remains under investigation, and officials plan to provide updates as charges move forward.
