Man Arrested For Stealing Over $2,000 In Wine From BJ's Wholesale Club

Miami-Dade, FL - A Miami-Dade man is behind bars after being accused of repeatedly stealing high-priced wine from the same BJ's Wholesale Club over several weeks.

Police reported that 51-year-old Douglas Berdayes was arrested Tuesday and faces multiple charges, including retail theft, petty theft, attempting to use an anti-shoplifting device, and resisting an officer without violence.

According to Miami-Dade jail records, Berdayes targeted the BJ's Wholesale Club located at 7007 Southwest 117th Avenue, with thefts dating back to November.

Surveillance footage captured Berdayes on November 13th leaving the store with wine bottles valued at $365.35.

The thefts escalated in December, with $649.12 worth of wine stolen on December 5th, followed by $580.72 on December 20th.

Additional thefts occurred on December 26th and December 30th, totaling $300.15 and $294.96 in stolen wine, respectively.

On Tuesday, authorities responded to a shoplifting call at the store.

The arrest report states officers spotted Berdayes in the parking lot, but he fled on foot to a nearby CVS, dropping wine bottles along the way.

Police apprehended Berdayes shortly after.

BJ’s loss prevention staff confirmed he had stolen three wine bottles worth $237.97 that day after removing security devices.

He was also identified as the suspect in the prior thefts.

Berdayes was booked into jail and appeared in court Wednesday, where he was granted a $3,650 bond and ordered to stay away from BJ’s Wholesale Club.
