Man shoots at father and son during South Florida road rage incident

Homestead, FL - A man was arrested after allegedly firing shots at a car during a road rage incident in South Florida on Tuesday.

Police say 70-year-old James Wellham Wilkins was arrested after firing shots at a car driven by a father and son in Homestead shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, the victims were leaving the Coco Walk community on Northeast 12th Avenue and drove around Wilkins' car because he was taking too long to turn.

Police say Wilkins pulled up alongside the victim’s car in his gray Honda Civic, pointed a gun at the car, and fired a shot at the car; before making a U-turn to head back to the community.

The victim followed Wilkins and witnessed him parking his car and entering his home.

The victim called 911 and police took Wilkins into custody.

Wilkins refused to speak with detectives and was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting a deadly missile, and child abuse without great bodily harm.
